He’s been called Canada’s answer to George Strait. But a distinctive sound and songwriting ability is what defines Gord Bamford as one of country music’s best neotraditional artists.

Like so many others that have come before him, Bamford is not an overnight success. He has spent the better part of the last 20 years honing his craft, working to get where he is today: a 16-time Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) award winning artist.

Fast forward to September 8, 2013. Bamford picked up five CCMA trophies in the record seven categories he was nominated in, largely in part to “Leaning On A Lonesome Song” off his 2012 album Is It Friday Yet? That album also earned the 2012 CCMA Album of the Year. Those awards followed other accolades from winning the 2010 CCMA Male Artist of the Year and Album of The Year award for Day Job, to his song “My Daughter’s Father” which claimed the #1 Spun Canadian song in 2011. Add a couple of Canadian Juno nominations to the list and you begin to understand the caliber of Gord Bamford the artist.

Such success could signify a couple of great years or a career highlight for some. But knowing what’s in store with Bamford’s stellar forthcoming sixth studio effort, his last album might look like an appetizer in comparison to Country Junkie. This 14-track record is all steak with plenty of sizzle.
